The Acre Foundation

Our Ecoscheme

For every placement Acre completes we like to give a little more by making a donation to one of our chosen charities on our client’s behalf. If you are a client who has had an individual placed by Acre, please select from one of the three options below and complete your selection online.

  • Cool Earth

Rainforests are worth much more to the human race left standing. Cool Earth is a unique charity that is saving the world’s most endangered rainforests through working with local communities to secure forests at risk of being destroyed within the next 18 months. Cool Earth works to build local and community capacity to make a difference, ensuring that less than 10% of their supporters’ money is spent on administration.

  • Octavia Foundation

The Octavia Foundation’s work is intended to increase the strength and effectiveness of community life; improving local conditions, especially for people in disadvantaged situations, enabling people to take part in public decision-making, and helping them to achieve greater long-term control over their circumstances. Acre have partnered with the Octavia Foundation to develop the ‘Gateways to Work’ programme.

  • ZSL’s Edge of Existence Programme

Elephants, rhinos and pandas may be the poster boys of conservation but many equally unique and threatened species are in danger of slipping unnoticed towards extinction. Your donation will support the Zoological Society of London to raise the profile and initiate conservation of the world’s most Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) species.

Other causes we support

As well as our Ecoscheme, Acre supports a number of charities and other worthwhile causes.

For the past 3 years we have supported GOSH, but this year I challenged my colleagues to chose a different route, with one premise – that we would support causes only which were very personal to Acre employees, ‘charity begins at home as they say!

  • 4 Louis

Andy’s close friends lost their baby daughter Genevieve soon after birth. Today in the UK, 17 families will suffer the trauma of a stillbirth or neonatal death. 4Louis, a family run charity, support and help these families through the grieving process. They specialise in supplying hospitals with Cold Cots, a piece of equipment allowing parents to spend up to 72 hours with their baby after death, as well as memory boxes which help parents capture memories of their children.

  • Kiva

Acre gives £100 to every new employee upon joining to loan through Kiva to entrepreneurs in developing countries. Kiva relies on a global network of volunteers and field partners, 100% of every donation goes directly towards funding loans; Kiva does not take a cut or charge interest to their Field Partners. Acre’s support is ongoing; as the loan is repaid, it is reinvested into the funding of another loan to another entrepreneur somewhere in the world.

  • MQ Mental Health

Marie’s charity, MQ Mental Health are the first major charity funding much-needed scientific research to transform the lives of everyone affected by mental illness. Having been one of the 1 in 4 people affected by mental illness herself, this is a cause close to her heart. Their vision is to create a world where mental illness is understood, effectively treated, and ultimately prevented. Research into the underlying causes is hugely under-funded and prevention is as important as the cure. Marie is walking the Pyrenees to raise awareness so as society can identify the signs and help people everywhere to have the confidence to come forward sooner.

  • Operation Orphan

Operation Orphan is a charity chosen on behalf of everyone within Acre. Our original link is via our CEO’s school friend who 12 months ago had the idea of organising a 650 mile run throughout the UK and Sierra Leone to raise awareness much need funds to support a specific group of Ebola orphans. The Acre Foundation supported the run by providing the running kit. But Operation Orphan impacts the lives of orphans not just in Africa but across the globe, including the UK, and we want to continue our support.

Their goal is to improve the quality of life for orphans and vulnerable children in a holistic, culturally relevant and sustainable way – focused on the following ‘pillars’; sustainable development, education, healthcare, poverty relief and pyschosocial help.
