No pain, no gain!

The realisation of my challenge has recently dawned on me. I wish I had reality checked myself when I signed up for 3 half marathons in such a blasé way. For a non-runner, these challenges are pretty daunting, and let’s not even mention the whole jumping out of a plane malarkey!
I still question my sanity.
Training is now well and truly underway. With the overwhelming support I have received on my Just Giving page I feel this challenge needs to be taken very seriously and I need to do a good job to show my appreciation to my donors. So now it feels like running / cycling / various fitness building classes have taken over my life, although that’s not to say the occasional glass of wine doesn’t pass my lips.
This weekend is marking the start of the proper runs – none of this sub 1 hour business, it’s now that the 10 milers start. This means an alcohol-free night beforehand – an excuse that doesn’t sit well with my boozehound friends.

Next week is exciting though, as I am heading to New York for a few days to see a friend. With the combination of my love of early mornings and jet lag (not really), I am looking forward to some runs around Central Park and the various attractions of NYC – is there a better way to see the city? Hopefully the excitement of seeing the sights will distract from the pain that I will no doubt be enduring.
But let’s not forget the reason I’m doing this – its all for a great cause. Any pain I have (and will) put myself through is nothing in comparison to the physical, emotional pain and suffering that is inflicted upon the children War Child are supporting. Therefore, please feel free to generously donate whatever you can to make an enormous difference to these children’s lives.
I’ll report back in my next blog on my New York running adventure. In the meantime, if you happen to see me collapsed in London somewhere, please return me to the familiar grounds of Battersea!
