An update on Kiva from Ben

The last time I wrote about Kiva I had recently started at Acre. As it’s now been a year, I thought I should give you an update on how my loans are going.

From my previous post you can see I sent the first set of loans to a range of businesses, including Mukenyeziterimbere Group, Adonai Plus Group and the Wendy Group. To date, I’m pleased to say, we’ve received 83% of our initial payments back.

Kiva try to alleviate poverty by using microloans to lend to people without access to traditional banking systems.

The great thing about this is that we can now continue to use the money we received back to reinvest in other projects from around the globe – meaning that others will benefit from the scheme.

This time round, I’ve decided to look at projects which support the construction businesses in the developing world, including Ushuuda Baco Group in the DR Congo and Grover Benito, a carpenter from Bolivia.

It’s great that Kiva can provide such a great platform to empower people in the developing world to create the opportunity for themselves to prosper. I would urge you to have a look for yourself into how you can get involved by following this link.
