An update from Cool Earth – February 2012

This week we had a visit from Cool Earth’s Corporate Manager, Ben Gray.
Ben was keen to tell us about how Acre’s donations have assisted Cool Earth in securing areas of rainforest in Peru. He also told us how we’ve not only helped protect the area from logging, but also ensured the biodiversity of a region home to 17 endangered species.
I was interested to learn from Ben about the other work Cool Earth did on the ground to help the people who live in these areas. In the Rio Ene region, they’ve helped the local communities to get a fair price for their cocoa beans – giving them the means to support themselves – as well as building three schools and equipping clinics with vital healthcare and medicine supplies.
Acre is proud to be supporting Cool Earth on these exciting and worthwhile projects – knowing that this vital rainforest will be protected from deforestation and that local communities will be helped in the process.
