Acre & Kiva - Ben’s story
Posted on 20 December 2011 by Ben
As a new employee to Acre I was given a chance to make a donation to one of charities we support. I chose Kiva.
This is a great charity that enables you to make loans to individuals in developing countries without banking systems to help alleviate poverty. Instead of making a donation, your money helps buy equipment and stock for their business. Over time the borrower repays the loan and that money becomes available to fund other projects
I gave my first set of loans on the 7th December, and to date we’ve had updates from three of the causes saying they have received 100% of their required funds. Here’s a snapshot of some of the groups that have received loans: Mukenyeziterimbere Group, Adonai Plus Group, and the Wendy Group.
This is a great way to support communities in the developing world, as the loan is paid back each time, we can support numerous projects on an ongoing basis.
Watch this space for updates of new loans in the coming months.Tweet
